Word from the Chairman
Building a more sustainable future together
Last financial year Colruyt Group continued to grow steadily. And this on an economic, social and ecological level.
The group turnover rose by 3,4% to almost EUR 9,5 million and we booked a net profit of EUR 383,2 million. These figures are the result of investments, primarily in extra store space and in the renovation of our existing store stock. We are also continuing to play the card of innovation. For example our meat-processing company opened a high technology production site of 18.000 m² and we launched a unique tailor-made application for food.
As a retailer we want to differentiate ourselves by being connected. In our pursuit of sustainable entrepreneurship we book the best results through joint projects with partners. CITRUS is a good example. This project aims to optimise freight transport with real-time traffic info and thus limit the number of kilometres on the road. We thus continue to further build on close collaboration between different departments and retail formulas. A collaboration that this year we crowned with the launch of our shared customer loyalty card Xtra, a milestone in the history of our group.
We are also continuing to invest strongly on an ecological level. In order to make more progress here, we are constantly joining forces with international partners. Together with them we want to help make the difference and inspire others as much as possible to help build a more sustainable future. For us it is a great honour to now be able to act as an ambassador of the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ of the United Nations.
Finally I would like to sincerely thank our customers for their confidence, our employees for their dedication, and our suppliers and all other partners for their ready collaboration.
