Colruyt opens store in trendy Nieuw Zuid area in Antwerp
On Wednesday 4 December, the 244th Colruyt store opens in the new Nieuw Zuid area in Antwerp. The supermarket is fully integrated in a new housing project and will offer residents the opportunity to benefit from the lowest prices in their region close to home. Moreover, Colruyt Antwerp (Jan Van Gent) is a low-energy store and will employ 5 new co-workers.
Store in a housing complex
The new Colruyt store is situated at Gentplaats 15 on the site of former discotheque Zillion, where a new residential area is rising. The store is situated on the ground floor of a new housing complex and thus has flats on top. In the basement is public car park 't Zuid with 160 parking places. ”Colruyt customers can park their car there while they shop”, says store manager Koen Dausy. ”There are automatic barriers. And 2 lifts bring the customer to the store and back to the car park.”
The new district has some 2,000 residences. Koen Dausy: ”Hence the need for a large store, where residents can find a wide range of food and non-food products close to home. We are happy to offer them a store that is nicely integrated with the district, easy to reach on foot and by bicycle and where they can shop comfortably.”
This Colruyt store in Antwerp has a surface of 1,000 m². ”Our customers will find a wide product range of fruit and vegetables, meat, drinks, frozen products, ... of national brands and the trusted private labels Boni Selection and Everyday”, the store manager says. ”And 6 check-out posts ensure a fluent service.”
5 new jobs
The new store also offers extra employment. Koen Dausy: ”We are working with 20 co-workers, 5 of which are new colleagues. They are trained to put their best foot forward every day to serve our customers to the best of their abilities.”
Colruyt made a few sustainable choices for this new store. The prices are mentioned on electronic labels. They are energy-efficient and better for the environment than paper labels.
Furthermore, this Colruyt is a low-energy store with optimal insulation, ventilation, cooling and heating. The store is equipped with sustainable technology such as a refrigeration system with propene, heat recovery from the ventilation and the refrigeration system ... Koen Dausy: ”This project is part of a more comprehensive renovation plan: by 2029, all Colruyt Group stores should be low-energy stores. The group's CO2 emissions have to go down by 4 %.”
Special open house
From Wednesday 4 December, store manager Koen Dausy and his 20 co-workers will be on hand to welcome the customers to the brand-new Colruyt Antwerp (Jan Van Gent). ”The evening before, on Tuesday 3 December from 5 to 8 pm, everyone can come and discover the new store”, says the store manager. ”During this special open house, customers can enjoy snacks and a drink. Everyone is most welcome!”
