DreamLand buckles down to Torfs campaign: donate toys to the Kinderarmoedefonds (child poverty fund) and Arc-en-Ciel

Now that not just schools are closed, but libraries and toy libraries as well, children from underprivileged families are hit especially hard by the corona crisis. DreamLand and Torfs therefore join forces to return something to society by donating toys to families, which can use this extra support and distraction. Both organisations decided to make a joint donation to the Kinderarmoedefonds in Flanders and Arc-en-Ciel in Wallonia.

Family fun for everyone

In Belgium, one out of five children grows up in poverty. This corona crisis is an additional challenge for children who barely have toys, live in smaller spaces, have no heating, no Internet, etc.

Lots of families are looking for extra entertainment for their children now that schools are closed. DreamLand notices this in its webshop sales: party games, puzzles, hobby material and outdoor toys are selling like hot cakes. At the same time, we realise that not all families can enjoy this.

Dieter Struye, Colruyt Group's General Non-Food manager: "Many Belgian families live in poverty and are having difficulties entertaining their children all day long. Indeed, not just the schools are closed, but many libraries, toy libraries, etc. as well. At DreamLand, family fun occupies centre stage. Consequently, we want make every effort to support underprivileged families with toys in these hard times. We therefore join forces with our colleagues at Torfs".

DreamLand and Torfs fighting child poverty

Out of concern for underprivileged children, DreamLand decided to buckle up to the action organised by Torfs. Apart from a discount for the customer, Torfs donates 5% of each website sale to the good cause. DreamLand doubles the amount gathered and together, Torfs and DreamLand donate this amount in toys to the Kinderarmoedefonds in Flanders and Arc-en-Ciel in Wallonia. They are elaborating the practical details concerning this donation now.

Dieter Struye hopes that this action will be widely supported: "We hope to make many underprivileged families - and particularly children - happy in these times and to provide some cheerfulness and connection."

Wouter Torfs seconds this message: "Now is not the time to quit but to take our responsibility together. As retailers, we want to join forces to help families and children who are hit the hardest."
