New Colruyt store in Balen twice as large
On Wednesday 4 December, the brand-new Colruyt store in Balen will open its doors right next to the former store. The latter closed forever on Saturday 30 November at 8 pm. The new supermarket is almost twice as large. Consequently, customers will find a much larger range of products. This low-energy store is also equipped with a Collect&Go pick-up point. The large car park has accommodation for electric cars. Classic cars can refuel at the DATS 24 station at the front of the site.
Complete assortment on 2.350 m²
The former Colruyt store in Balen had become too small to shop comfortably. "That is why we built a new one, next to the former store", says store manager Sarah Beysen. "It is almost 2.350 m²large. A larger store means a larger range of products, in the frozen products department and the fresh market for instance. One additional check-out point - in total we have seven now - ensures a smooth service. Five additional employees will be working at the new store."
Fresh, pre-packed meat in a refrigerated cabinet
Customers can find fresh quality meat in a self-service counter. Sarah Beysen: "The meat is pre-packed in handy portions. Customers can immediately see the ingredients, the quantity and the price. They can pick the package they want."
Collect&Go shops for the customers
The new Colruyt store also has a Collect&Go pick-up point now. "Collect&Go is a handy Colruyt Group service where we shop for the customers", says the store manager. "They send their shopping list to collectandgo.be or via the app, and the Collect&Go employees have their products ready at the pick-up point on the day and time of their choice."
Sustainable store
Colruyt made a few sustainable choices for this new store. The prices are mentioned on electronic labels. They are energy-efficient and better for the environment than paper labels. The car park with 121 places (30 more than before) is equipped with a charging point for electric cars.
Furthermore, Colruyt Balen is a low-energy store with solar panels and optimal insulation, ventilation, cooling and heating. Rainwater is collected by means of an infiltration field so it can gradually seep into the ground. Sarah Beysen: "This project is part of a more comprehensive renovation plan: by 2029, all Colruyt Group stores should be low-energy stores. The group's CO2 emissions have to go down by 4 %."
Special open evening on 3 December
From Wednesday 4 December, store manager Sarah Beysen and her 32 co-workers will welcome their customers at the new Colruyt Balen.
"The evening before everyone can come and discover the store", says the store manager. "During this special open evening, we will offer our customers a snack and a drink from 5 to 8 pm. Everyone is most welcome!"
