Renovated Colruyt store in Bredene opens on 29 April

On Wednesday 29 April, the renovated Colruyt store in Bredene opens its doors again. Good news, because it means that inhabitants of Bredene can shop closer to home. In the larger store, which employs 3 extra co-workers, customers can find an even broader range of products. This low-energy store also houses a new butcher's department with self-service and a bigger Collect&Go pick-up point. The large car park is also ready to welcome electric cars and bicycles.

Store opens with strict precautions

The renovated Colruyt store in Bredene was originally scheduled to open at the beginning of April, but the outbreak of corona virus delayed it a little. Everyone worked hard to reopen the store at the end of this month. Consequently, inhabitants of Bredene will soon be able to shop closer to home in their familiar yet revamped Colruyt store.

'Our priority is and remains to protect the health of our co-workers and our customers and to help prevent the corona virus from spreading', says store manager Kizzy Van Brackevelt. Like in all other Colruyt stores, they comply with social distancing and the various precautions such as using hand gels, disinfecting shopping trolleys and the installation of plexiglass at the checkout.

Complete assortment on 1,853 m²

With a surface of 1,853 m², the new Colruyt store in Bredene is one third larger. "The fresh and frozen department are larger, the aisles are wider and we installed 11 checkout posts', says the store manager. Head butcher Luc Linskens adds: "For fresh meat, customers can go to our self-service butcher's shop. They can see our butcher's at work in the open workshop. Ideal to ask questions. Here, they can also find cold sliced meat and fresh salads."

Employment and maximum service

A larger store means a broader range of products: Three new employees were hired to join the team and provide our customers with the best service.

Sustainable store

During the renovation, Colruyt focused on optimum insulation, ventilation, lighting, heating and cooling systems, which make it a low-energy store. Prices are now mentioned on electronic labels, which are environment-friendlier than paper labels. Also, the store does not use any fossil fuels. "This project is part of a more comprehensive renovation plan: by 2029, all Colruyt Group stores should be low-energy stores. CO2 emission of the group must do down 4%", says the store manager.

A car park for everyone

The new, large car park has 57 extra parking places, amounting to 155 in total. It also has a charging post for electric cars. And there are special facilities for bicycles. "More and more people come to the store by bicycle, delivery bicycle or scooter", says the store manager. "For this reason, we use staple racks, a kind of U-shaped metal profile that is ideal to attach several kinds of two-wheelers."

Collect&Go is twice as large

During the renovation, the Collect&Go pick-up point was also altered. It is now located in the store, twice as big as before and it has its own entry and exit along Zandstraat. "Collect&Go is a handy Colruyt Group service, where we shop for the customers", says the store manager. "They send their shopping list to collectandgo.be or via the app, and the Collect&Go employees have their products ready at the pick-up point on the day and time of their choice."

Official opening on 29 April

As from Wednesday 29 April, store manager Kizzy Van Brackevelt, head butcher Luc Linskens and the 37 co-workers welcome their customers in the renovated Colruyt Bredene. "Because of the corona virus, there will not be an open evening, but feel free to come and have a look at your renovated Colruyt store as from Wednesday 29 April. You will feel at home straight away and enjoy all the benefits you are used to at Colruyt', the store manager concludes.
