During an internal inspection at supplier 'Viande De Liège', the presence of E. coli STEC was found in part of the beef products. The supplier supplies a small part of the meat (less than 10 %) to Colruyt.

Which products does this concern?

  1. Baked roast beef in all Colruyt stores in Belgium and Luxembourg.
  2. Fresh beef and preparations made of ground beef in 95 butcher's shops (click here to see the list of stores concerned).

Colruyt recalled baked roast beef from all Colruyt stores in Belgium and Luxembourg. We recalled fresh beef and preparations made of ground beef from 95 butcher's shops concerned (so not from all 240 Colruyt stores). It is important to explain that this contamination is present in only a small part of the meat of our supplier. However, we did not want to take chances and so we decided to recall all pieces of beef that were cut at the same moment in the 95 butcher's shops concerned.

Colruyt asks customers who bought these products in the stores concerned not to consume them but to return them to the store. The product will then be refunded. This only concerns the articles mentioned below that were sold between 12 and 26 April in the stores concerned.

We can currently guarantee, with 100 % certainty, that all products concerned have been removed from the stores yesterday (Saturday 27 April).

Possible symptoms of E. coli STEC infection

Possible symptoms of infection with E.coli STEC include diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and vomiting, possibly with fever. These symptoms usually occur within the week after consumption.

Mainly young children, pregnant women, people with decreased immunity and elderly people are risk groups.
People who have eaten the products concerned and show these symptoms are advised to consult their family doctor.
