OKay stores recall gipsy burgers and soup meatballs

Microbiological checks by an independent, accredited laboratory have demonstrated the presence of Salmonella in gipsy burgers and chicken meatballs for soup.  In consultation with the FASFC (Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain) OKay has therefore decided to withdraw these products from the shelves.

OKay asks its customers not to consume these products and to return them to the store, where they will be refunded. In the meantime, the products have been removed from the shelves in all the OKay stores.

Possible symptoms of Salmonella contamination

Possible symptoms of contamination with Salmonella are fever, stomach cramps and diarrhoea.  These symptoms usually occur within 12 to 48 hours after exposure.

The symptoms generally last 4 to 7 days and most people recover without specific treatment. Young children, pregnant women, people with decreased immunity and elderly people are risk groups. For them, the symptoms may be more serious and result in hospitalisation.

People who have eaten the gipsy burgers or the soup meatballs and show these symptoms should consult their family doctor.
If the gipsy burgers or the soup meatballs are fried to the core (as indicated on the packaging) there is very little risk of contamination.
