4 sustainable certificates for coffee and cocoa
Our coffee and chocolate wrappers for our house brands carry four different sustainability certificates: UTZ, Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade and BIO. All four of them are aligned with our vision of sustainable production. If there is a label on your tin of coffee beans or on your favourite chocolate biscuits, then you know that the cocoa and coffee farmers in the South have grown their beans in a way that respects people and the environment.
UTZ
Which products?
Originally just coffee. Now cocoa as well.
What does this certificate guarantee?
That the products come from farmers who take people and the environment into account. That means more sustainable cultivation methods, safe working conditions, combating deforestation, managing the soil, water and waste. And the farmers' children also have to attend school.
Other interesting information
Almost all Boni Selection and Everyday products that contain cocoa carry the UTZ logo. UTZ is joining forces with Rainforest Alliance from 2019 and the two organisations will be starting a new certification programme.

Which products?
Coffee, bananas and tea.
What does this certificate guarantee?
Good working conditions, low environmental impact and consideration for biodiversity and nature conservation.
Other interesting information
You will find the label on our single-origin coffees. This certificate is most widespread in the relevant areas of origin, making it easier to consistently buy certified coffee beans.

Which products?
All kinds of organic foods.
What does this certificate guarantee?
That the product is cultivated (and processed) in accordance with the strict regulations imposed by organic farming. Artificial fertiliser and chemical pesticides are ano-go, for example.
Other interesting information
This certificate is covered by European legislation, so you will find the label in shops throughout the EU.

Fairtrade
Which products?
Food, textiles, cosmetics and so on.
What does this certificate guarantee?
Honest trade with the South. The label stands for good working conditions, a fixed minimum price for farmers, an additional premium for the cooperative, and a range of environmental criteria.
Other interesting information
The Fairtrade label supports local farming communities, giving them more resources to combat poverty themselves and to take control of their own future.

You can also consciously choose a certified version of a lot of other products as well, from rice and printer paper to smoked salmon.
