EIT: European investment in now and in the future

Colruyt Group is constantly working on a future that is more sustainable and healthier. We do this together with our partners by finding solutions that are beneficial for the whole of society. That is why we invest in EIT Food, EIT Health and EIT Urban Mobility. The EIT (European Institute of Innovation & Technology) is an autonomous body of the European Union that promotes research and entrepreneurship by bringing together top experts to try and find solutions to pressing global challenges. This cross-fertilisation between businesses and scientists accelerates innovation.

A new, sustainable food chain

The EIT innovation consortium brings together Europe's leading businesses, universities and knowledge institutions. We also want to be at the helm of that open innovation platform and help find solutions that can be used by businesses and citizens across Europe. Our investments in the EIT puts us at the very forefront of innovators. Within EIT, our largest investment currently goes to EIT Food, which brings together more than 50 leading partners. Together we are working on the modernisation and sustainability of the food chain. For example, we are currently working on a platform that will help users log their food intake using a chatbot that can be adjusted in real time by their dietician.

From food loss to food gain

Students are looking into new products based on food surpluses. An international jury will assess whether effective production and sales are a good idea. That's the concept of Circular Food Generator Track, a project within EIT Food.

Strong solutions for mobility and health

Urban mobility and health are also important to us. That is why we have started investing in EIT Urban Mobility and EIT Health this year. We started a project for quiet (night) deliveries to supermarkets in the city. This means less noise pollution for local residents and results in more sustainable cities. At Food4Health, we are also working on the prevention of pre-metabolic syndrome. These are the symptoms that are associated with a disrupted metabolism due to an unhealthy diet or lack of exercise. The project helps people lead healthier lifestyles.

By investing in these projects, our expertise is bundled with that of our partners, resulting in effective solutions that can make a difference to tomorrow's world.
