Collaboration with Food banks brings help where it is needed

10 July 2020

During the past collection campaign, Colruyt customers donated a total of 76.826 meals to the Food Banks via gift vouchers. The action ran from 3 to 16 June 2020 and has been organised on an annual basis since 2005. Colruyt customers could donate two different meals: a breakfast package including oatmeal and milk, or a package for a hot meal with articles including vegetable soup, mushrooms and pasta.

Preferred partner

Since 1997, we have been working with the Food Banks as a preferred partner. Every day, volunteers from the Food Banks are dedicated to distributing food to social restaurants, shelters and other social initiatives, which in turn hand it out to people who really need it.

The food banks have been a preferred partner for years.

“Our organisation has been working closely with Colruyt Group for a number of years on the collection of unsold food" says Jozef Mottar, managing director of the Belgian Federation of Food Banks. “Our federation is pleased with the help of Colruyt and its customers. A collection of 4,159 tonnes of food in 2019 gave the 9 Belgian food banks an enormous boost.”

With this initiative, we contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

No proverty Zero hunger Responsible consumption & production
