Collection campaign for food banks is again a Success
During the past collection campaign, Colruyt customers donated a total of 76.826 meals to the Food Banks via gift vouchers. The action ran from 28 March to 10 April and has been organised on an annual basis since 2005. Colruyt customers could donate two different meals: a breakfast package including oatmeal and milk, or a package for a hot meal with articles including tomato soup, mushrooms and pasta.
Since 1997, we have been working with the Food Banks as a preferred partner. Every day, volunteers from the Food Banks are dedicated to distributing food to social restaurants, shelters and other social initiatives, which in turn hand it out to people who really need it.
“Our organisation has been working closely with Colruyt Group for a number of years on the collection of unsold food. The number of branches donating food surpluses continues to increase," says Jozef Mottar, managing director of the Belgian Federation of Food Banks. “This resulted in a significant increase in volume from 250 tonnes in 2014 to nearly 1,800 tonnes in 2017.”
And the collection campaign also yielded 5% more this year than in 2017. The Belgian Federation of Food Banks is satisfied with the help of Colruyt and its customers. Jozef Mottar: “A collection of more than 159 tonnes of food with joint value of €236,625 will give the 9 Belgian food banks an enormous boost.”
With this initiative, we contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
