Wherever you go ... wear your face mask

27 August 2020

Whether you are going to the supermarket, to work or on a city trip in your own country, you may (unexpectedly) meet people. So it is always a smart idea to have a face mask at hand. If you wear a face mask, you protect yourself and other people against spreading the corona virus. A small effort for a world of difference. But which face mask should you choose? And what is the best way to use it? Discover it below.

Which face mask do you prefer?

On our store shelves, you can find two types of high-quality face masks:  single-use disposable masks and reusable fabric masks. We call single-use disposable face masks 'comfort masks'. As for other products, Colruyt Group's quality department carries out random checks for these masks.

We also collaborate with Centexbel, the only laboratory in Belgium recognised by the government to test the surgical quality of face masks. This independent control organisation tested several samples, of several suppliers, of the comfort masks for sale at Colruyt Group's store formulas. The test results show that our comfort masks are more than 95% efficient to filter out bacteria. Much better than the 70% they have to meet. Moreover, they even comply with the quality level of a surgical face mask.

How do you wear a single-use disposable mask?

This is how you put on the mask:

  1. Disinfect or wash your hands.
  2. Hold the mask by the rubber bands. Never touch the surface.
  3. Place the rubber bands around your ears without touching your mouth or face. The white side is the inside. The coloured side is the outside.
  4. Stretch out the mask a little: pull the top and bottom edges slightly apart (so that if fits over your nose and mouth)
  5. Tighten the nose clip

This is how you remove the mask:

  1. Always disinfect or wash your hands.
  2. Carefully unhook the rubber bands and take off the mask. Make sure you don't touch your face.
  3. Dispose of the face mask in a bin that contains a bin liner.
  4. Disinfect or wash your hands again.

How do you wear a reusable textile face mask?

The reusable masks are made from sturdy, comfortable fabric. They have elastic ear loops but do not have a nose clip. After you have used the fabric mask, it can be washed at 60 degrees. You can then use it again.

Where can I find them?

Colruyt Lowest Prices, Spar, OKay, Bio-Planet, Cru, Dreamland and Dreambaby sell reusable fabric masks and comfort masks for single use. The reusable fabric masks are sold in batches of 5, in black or white. The disposable comfort masks are sold per 5 and per 50.

Together, we can keep it up

If you wear a face mask, you protect the people around you. That is why it is important that everyone wears one. However, you also have to comply with all the other means of protection and hygiene such as keeping enough distance and washing your hands. As of today, we also invite you to shop alone again. To prevent the corona virus from spreading, we all have to make an extra effort. And we are doing it well, together.
