Certified coffee blends: not so obvious

10 April 2018

Since the beginning of 2018, 99 % of our coffees have been certified. The same goes for the blends that Kris Durant, our master coffee roaster, creates in the coffee roasting plant. That's obvious, isn't it? But there's a bit more to it than that.

A coffee blend is a mixture of different coffee varieties, such as, for example, our Graindor Espresso, Everyday Moka or our Boni Selection Bio Dessert. Each coffee variety must have a separate sustainability certificate in order to achieve a fully certified blend. Our buyers therefore choose beans certified by the Rainforest Alliance or UTZ. However, what type of coffee is available to buy depends very much on the market. Suppliers can therefore vary and that's where the difficulty lies for our master coffee roaster. A change in supplier must not affect the typical taste of our coffee blends: your Graindor Dessert has to stay your Graindor Dessert.

Don't worry: whatever coffee Kris gets, his trained taste buds ensure that our blends always retain their distinctive aroma. To find out how he does that, watch this video clip.

With this initiative, we contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

Responsible consumption & production
