Support the Food Banks: your gesture brings warmth to the table
Losing your job, a divorce, accident or illness, etc. It’s easier than you think to end up in poverty. One in five Belgians are at serious risk of financial problems. We organise an annual fundraising campaign for the Food Banks because we believe that everyone is entitled to a healthy meal.
Annual fundraising campaign
The Belgian Federation of Food Banks fights hunger and food waste by donating food and food surpluses to people in financial difficulty. Every year, several of our stores organise a fundraising campaign to give the Food Banks an extra boost. This year, the campaign runs from April 22nd to May 19th.
During the campaign, at Colruyt Lowest Prices, Okay, Bio-Planet, Spar Colruyt Group and Collect&Go (or further down this page), you can temporarily make a voluntary donation of 2, 4, 6 or 10 euros, depending on which option you choose: a breakfast, a meal, a fresh food pack or a children’s pack. We believe that together we can make a huge difference with lots of small donations - starting from €2. Your donation goes directly to the Food Banks. They use it to provide healthy food to people in need.
This was our impact in 2025
The Food Banks shared the impact of this action: in 2025, together we raised an impressive amount of €137,000 for over 210,000 people who rely on food aid every month. Since we also focus on health, we consulted to determine which food products offer the best nutritional balance. All products were distributed through the 9 regional Food Banks to nearly 700 affiliated local associations across the country.
How can you donate to the Food Banks? 3 options!
- Option 1: Choose between 2, 4, 6 or 10 euros and have the relevant barcode scanned at the checkout of the Colruyt, Okay, Bio-Planet, Spar Colruyt Group stores and Collect&Go collection points. The donation will be automatically added to your receipt.
- Option 2: Donate 100 points to the Food Banks via our sustainable savings programme in your Xtra app.

Reducing food waste
Based on our social commitment and ambition to minimise food waste, we have been donating our surplus food to the Food Banks for almost 30 years. We also ensure our unsold food is used for other beneficial purposes. Our sustainable approach means we are a frontrunner in reducing food waste and an inspiration to many European food retailers.
