Colruyt Group and sustainability: step by step, for tomorrow’s generation

Everyone makes choices every day: what we buy, what we eat, how we stay active, and how we treat our environment. These choices may seem insignificant, but together they make a difference—for ourselves, for the people around us, and for society. That’s why, as an employer, retailer, and producer, we want to make it easier for people to make more conscious choices.

Moving towards more sustainable business practices, step by step

As a family-owned business, we’ve been thinking in terms of generations for more than fifty years. We look beyond the present and care about what we leave behind for future generations. That’s why we make well-considered choices and continue to adapt and innovate. So we remain relevant as a commercial enterprise, today and tomorrow, for our employees, customers and society.

As a food & health retailer, producer, and employer, we take responsibility where we want to and can make an impact. We do this by making sustainable choices in our infrastructure, by investing in people, and by offering services or products that we produce either partially or entirely in-house. From store to fitness, from farm to table, from employee to customer.

Conscious consumption and living: together for tomorrow’s generation

Een vader, van achteren gezien, tilt zijn jonge kind op zijn schouders onder een helderblauwe hemel, wat vreugde, liefde en familieband uitstraalt.

For us, sustainable business also means making conscious choices easy and accessible in everyday life: from shopping differently and deliberately choosing products with a lower environmental impact, to paying more attention to health and well-being.

Together with our employees, brands, and partners, we encourage customers to consume and live more consciously, step by step. For example, Colruyt Group Academy offers experiences and tools to help you shape your life the way you want. And through the Colruyt Group Foundation, it becomes easier to support a good cause in our society.

We also make this very concrete and easy through our rewards programme. If you buy products with a Green Score of A+ or A, then you earn points that you can redeem for webinars at Colruyt Group Academy or use to support the charities of our foundation. This way, every conscious choice is tangibly rewarded with the power to take the next step! And yes, this is how we create even more of an impact together. For today and for the generation of tomorrow.

What are our ‘Step by Step’ themes?

When we think about tomorrow, we like to focus on three themes that we all consider important and that we, as Colruyt Group, are committed to: health, caring for one another, and environmental awareness.

How do we report on our sustainability policy?

Annual report with sustainability reporting

Every year, we report on the environmental and social value our group creates. The sustainability report is prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.

7 sustainability objectives

As a values-driven employer, manufacturer, and retailer focused on nutrition and health, we have established 7 concrete and measurable sustainability objectives. We actively monitor these objectives and carefully track our progress.

Reliable calculations

No window dressing: we want to make a tangible impact. We measure this using internationally recognised and scientifically substantiated methodologies that take into account all aspects of sustainability, such as the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) and the Organisation Environmental Footprint (OEF)
