Reducing the environmental impact of our products
As a retailer, we sell a huge number of products every year. And every one of those products has an impact on the environment. Our mission is clear: to reduce that impact step by step. Today, our focus is on two priorities: reducing the emissions from our products and protecting and restoring our ecosystems.
What is the environmental impact of our products?
What’s on our shelves says a lot about who we are. Customers expect our products not only to be affordable and readily available, but also to become more sustainable. That’s no easy task, because the greatest impact often lies in the supply chain, even before the product reaches the store.
That’s why we look at the entire life cycle of our products: from raw materials and production to packaging, transport, use, waste and recycling. This allows us to identify where the impact is greatest and where we can make targeted improvements, together with our suppliers.
Working more closely with partners and customers
As a retailer, we sit between the manufacturers and our customers. This puts us in a unique position to make an impact on both sides.
We work with our suppliers and manufacturers on concrete improvements. We share ambitions, launch projects and set clear criteria for each product category. In this way, we systematically reduce the environmental impact of both our own-brand products and national brands.
Our customers, too, make a difference every day with what they put in their shopping trolleys. It’s up to us to make it easier for customers to consume consciously.
