Biodiversity: Nature in harmony
Only when nature is in balance can we exist. Biodiversity is crucial for oxygen, clean water, fertile soil, a stable climate, food, building materials, etc. One million plant and animal species are threatened with extinction. High time to restore the balance!

How does Colruyt Group aim to restore biodiversity and prevent its loss?
1 Purchasing policy with consideration for ecosystems
As a retailer, we have an impact on biodiversity through the products in our range. In each of our value chains we focus on respect for existing ecosystems and good biodiversity management: responsible use of land and water, no overexploitation, no excessive use of pesticides and fertilisers, etc. We take the country of origin into account in our purchasing policy, among other things, and enter into a dialogue with our suppliers.
For the products of our private labels, we choose raw materials with an internationally recognised sustainability certificate when possible.
2 Making our own land more biodiverse
On our own sites, we want to create quality habitats for fauna and flora: at our stores, petrol stations, distribution centres, offices, wind turbines, sea farm, etc. We aim to fill the available space with more biodiversity, use indigenous greenery and attract indigenous species.
On our own farmland, we pay attention to soil composition and its improvement through regenerative agriculture, smart farming, crop rotation plans and specific planting.
3 Raising consumer awareness
Colruyt Group wants to increase the general support for and awareness of biodiversity. Through transparent information and the Eco-Score on our products, we provide our consumers with tools to consume consciously and to choose products made with attention to biodiversity.
